Event Recap: AER @ Road Atlanta

My season started off February 10-12 at Road Atlanta with the American Endurance Racing series. I was driving the #78 Casey Carden Motorsports Mazda Miata. One cool bit about this car is the team finished it the night before the official practice/qualifying day! In fact two weeks before the race it was barely a car let alone a race car.

Saturday's nine hour race went fairly trouble free. The only time the car went behind the wall was for a precautionary fluid check. Otherwise the car ran top notch allowing us to finish fifth in class.

On Sunday I started the car and drove the first two hours in the seven hour race. I managed to get us into first in class by quiet time (Road Atlanta's mandatory 10am-12pm no race engine rule). The pace continued after the break for the remaining five hours. We did have an issue with the steering rack wearing out which caused some lap times to drop. I got in the car last though to finish the race and with some luck and decent pace we managed to finish second in class.

Officially my next scheduled race will be at The Mitty in April but there's other possibilities stirring before that!
